Meetings

Did you take your kids to a horse or horseless horse project meeting only to find out that you’re now the leader for the meetings?

Even worse, do you know nothing about horses?

On this website, you’ll find some basic lesson/meeting plans and ideas if you’re not a teacher but find yourself in a new horse or horseless horse project leader role.

A good format that seems to work well is a lesson for an hour or less and then a craft project for a half hour or so.

An hour and a half is usually a good amount of time. Much longer than that and the kids start getting distracted. Shorter and you might run out of time to get through everything you want.

The emphasis should always be on safety first.

Have fun with the inside meetings and look for opportunities for the kids to get some hands on experiences with horses. Any clinic that you can set up with professionals or local barn owners will greatly benefit the kids, especially if they’re new to horses. Try to plan for at least one every other month. You could learn a lot too!

These lessons don’t need to be done in any particular order although it would be best to have the safety meeting at the beginning of the year. If you meet at a horse barn, the kids need to know that they can’t run around and be crazy around the horses.

Do research on these topics and add whatever else you’d like. Verify the information. Make changes as necessary.

Make the meetings your own! You can do it!
