This horse booklet is a fun and educational craft! It’s actually one of my favorites because you can do so much with it!
To get started, you need a few supplies:
- Construction paper
- Markers and Pens or pencils
- Scissors
- Glue
- Single hole puncher
- Laminator Machine or Self laminating paper
- Horse magazines

Quick Tip: If you want to make this really easy, you can buy construction paper that’s already cut into 5″ x 7″ sheets.
Once you have all your supplies ready, let the fun begin!
Start by deciding what your book is going to be about. You have so many options here.
Make it a book about:
- Basic Horse Tack
- Colors of horses
- Leg and Face Markings
- Western horse tack
- English horse tack
- Horse Breeds
- Disciplines
- Parasites
Next, pick the type of horse booklet.
Informational Booklet
This type of book is basically a book that gives information. The style usually involves a picture and then an explanation. These are great for the older kids who can do more research and really put the time and detail in to make it the way they want. It can be embellished in all sorts of different ways.
Flash Card Style Booklet
For this type of horse booklet, you would put a picture or word on one side and then put the answer to what it is on the back of the page and then go through the book in reverse. This is great for teaching. 4-H kids who are in horse bowl can make one or many to help them study for their competition.
Picture Book
A picture book is exactly what it sounds like… a picture book for fun. Younger kids usually end up with picture books. They love making them. It’s a book they can call their own. Let them use horse stickers or other embellishments to make it even more crafty.
These books can be as few or as many pages as the kids would like to make them.
Laminating the Horse Booklet
Once the pages are done, use a laminator or self-laminating paper to laminate each page of the booklet. This part is optional but when the horse booklets are being used often, this will keep them from ripping and keeps them in great condition.
The self-laminating paper can get a little expensive so if you’ll be making a lot of them, you might want to look into an inexpensive laminator. Then you’ll have it for future projects too. Make sure that you also pick up some laminating sheets!
Once the pages are laminated, punch a hole through each page and insert a binder ring to make them into books. Use one, two, or three holes.
These horse booklets turn out really great no matter what age kids you’re working with!
